Do you know the answers to each of those questions? If not, maybe freelancing isn’t the right step for you at the moment. But if you want to get a taste for freelancing without quitting your day job that is also very good. Either way, you don’t have to know all the answers right now, you can learn along the way.
Sorry for scarring your earlier, but it’s for your own good. Most people jump right into the deep end of the pool without knowing how to swim. Sadly, it usually is not the case they by being in the deep end they learn how to swim … they give up saying that it’s not for them (or drown).
Freelancing for the first time is a scary experience. It’s something completely new for many of you, out in the world on your own. Only yourself to blame if something goes wrong … it is a big responsibility, but a good one. I hope to give you a good knowledge footing to get you started on the right path.

Being a freelancer is not always easy. The biggest problem you will face as a freelancer is not competition, rude clients nor finding clients, it will be you. You yourself are your worst enemy in freelancing.
Unlike in a 9-5 job, as a freelancer you are your own boss, which usually is great. Though being your own comes with it’s own responsibilities, such as bossing yourself around. In a great article on FreelanceApple.com, the author says about controlling yourself and your drinking habits (about coffee):
Sphere: Related ContentSleep, however, is probably the worst part of drinking caffeine containing beverages. There are 5 stages of sleep and “deep sleep” is in stage 5 where you are getting a real rest. Drinking coffee will rarely allow you to pass stage 4 and you will never enter stage 5 for your real rest. If you drink a cup of coffee, there is still a considerable amount left in your blood stream twelve hours later to disturb your sleep pattern. This just means that when you wake up you will need more coffee and will slowly be edging toward a full addict with only minute differences from a addicted smoker. Read more
Love Conqueres All! No, Really … It Does.
When I say love, I don’t mean the mushy, icky type. I mean the burning passion type! We all know of the stereotypical movie scene where the hero jumps into harms way just to save the damsel in distress … well it’s that type of passion and love we need not just for ourselves, our jobs or others but as well for everything thing we do in life.
On a wonderful article on Biznik.com entitled “Commitment Turns Stumbling Blocks Into Stepping Stones” John Erdman put it down nicely for us:
To become successful it is necessary to be committed to yourself, your ideas, your desires and your goals. The word commitment strikes fear in the hearts of many people, but commitment is as simple as setting goals and action plans.
Goal setting to most people is a chore they do only on a small scale, if at all. To most people, goals are something they talk about but seldom have in a concrete form. When you have well defined goals, you know where you are going and how to get there. I define this as Commitment. To establish the road map to achieve your real potential you must have written goals and desires. Remember if you do not stand for something, you will fall for anything.
Many people go around complaining that life “isn’t working out for them” or that life isn’t “fair” or even that “life has it out for them.” People make up a lot of excuses to not get their life in order, but really does not take much to get a lot out of life. What most people are missing is desire and a definite goal in life.
In Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill (a book everyone should read and study like a bible …), a whole chapter (chapter 2) is devoted to the one subject of desire! Why? Because it is the primary driving force in practically everyone. Bill Gates, for example, did not become rich and famous simply because he had a good idea. Many people have good ideas. But unless there is a burning passion to fuel that goal or aim “ya ain’t goin no-where”. Read more
